UGG is an American footwear and lifestyle brand founded in 1978 in Southern California by Australian surfer Brian Smith and Doug Jensen. Smith noticed his fellow surfers didn't have sheepskin boots like Australians wore after chilly surf sessions, inspiring him to import and sell the iconic boots from the back of his van at Malibu Beach.
