What is Theory
Theory is a New York-based contemporary fashion brand founded in 1997 by Andrew Rosen (former CEO of Anne Klein and Calvin Klein executive) and designer Elie Tahari. The brand pioneered the use of technically sophisticated stretch fabrics in modern workwear, beginning with women's comfortable stretch pants that revolutionized the contemporary market. A men's line was added in 1999. In 2003, Japanese retail giant Fast Retailing (parent company of Uniqlo) acquired a majority stake through Link International, and by 2009 Theory became a fully owned subsidiary of Fast Retailing. Today, Theory operates 434+ retail locations worldwide with global sales approaching $1 billion. The brand's headquarters and flagship store are located in Manhattan's Meatpacking District. Francesco Fucci has served as Creative Director since 2018. Theory also owns Helmut Lang (acquired 2005).

Final Sale items (40% off or higher) are not eligible for return or credit—they can only be exchanged for a different size of the same style and color, subject to availability. Gift returns with receipt qualify for store credit or exchange within 60 days.
