Nordstrom is an iconic American luxury department store founded in 1901 by Swedish immigrant John W. Nordstrom and shoemaker Carl F. Wallin. John Nordstrom was born in 1871 near Luleå, Sweden, and emigrated to the United States at age 16 with just $5 in his pocket. After working his way across the country in mines, logging camps, and railroads, he joined the Klondike Gold Rush in 1897.
